I love comics. I grew up with superheros so I get a little geek’ed out when they make movies about my childhood heroes. I actually went and saw this in the theatre and rented it to watch it again.

Ryan Reynolds stars as a test pilot that loves to take risks but has a past that he fears.  He is chosen by some pink skinned alien to join the Lantern Core, a galactic police force. Little does he know a big bad ass alien is making its way through the universal devouring worlds. Can he over come his fear in time and kick some ass?

I actually like this movie, I think they did a fair job of bringing it to the big screen. The only complaint I really had about the movie was the subplot of a scientists that gets infected by the aliens blood and turns into a big head villain.  It was totally unneccessary to move the plot along and took away from the movie. They could have done more with the Green Lantern if they had.

The special effects were top-notch and it was a very entertaining movie. It’s also kid friendly (7 and up). If you like superheroes then this is a must see, if you don’t you will still like this movie,

Ok I rented this movie thinking here is a buddy feel good comedy and was going to be just ok funny,  Boy was I wrong! This was a hilarious, raunchy, and F-bomb laced movie.  I laughed out loud on numerous occasions

This type of movie has been done before; a la Freaky Friday ect. So the plot is not new. Two best friends, Jason Bateman the rich successful lawyer and Ryan Reynolds his under achieving un-employed actor buddy get drunk one night and are pissing in a fountain.  They both wish at the same time that they could have each others lives. Be careful what you wish for, They switch places and go on a journey of self discovery blah blah blah.

That is where the similarities to other films like it end. This movie got an R rating for a reason. It has nudity, foul language and some really gross out scenes that would make the Farrelly Brothers proud. Jason and Ryan both turned in great performances and the comedic teamwork was genuine.  Not the funniest movie I have ever seen but it will have you cracking up.  So despite the premise being done before I have a feeling it won’t be done like this again.  Definitely worth a look-see, and for heavens sake do not watch this in front of your kids!
